Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?

Safe journey, Reimer, my friend... I will miss you, and I know I'm not the only one.

Yes, it's only Germany, but you've gone home to stay, and you'll be building the rest of your life elsewhere. It's what people do, and there's nothing wrong with that. Except... goodbyes always make me sad, and you are a closer friend than most. My world is a darker, lesser place in your absence. I'm glad I was able to rescue you from the fierce cockroaches.

The kitties will miss being spoiled by their Uncle Reimer, too.

Auld Lang Syne (Robbie Burns, who denies having written it)
(click title for translation)

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And auld lang syne?

Refrain:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae mn about the braes
And pou'd the gowans fine;
But we've wander'd mony a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne.
Refrain:

We two hae paidled i' the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.
Refrain:

And here's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
And we'll tak' a right gude-willy waught,
For auld lang syne.
