Karma's a Bitch

Reading this year's Christmas Massacre list of laid off WotC employees brought to mind this Japanese proverb:

"If you sit by the river long enough, you will see the body of your enemy float by."

Aaaaand... there goes one now!

One of the benefits of getting older is having lived long enough to see the wheel turn.

Had a Bad Day

Last week was filled with Epic Fail, and while this week is shaping up better, this seems appropriate.

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well oh that strong
And I'm not wrong ...

Still Here

I've been neglecting this blog shamefully....

It's been an up and down year. I'm anxious about the elections and the ongoing erosion of our civil rights. The job is good, but I'm suffering an epic-sized case of burnout on life in general, and especially my hobbies. The Diabetes flows in and out of control, and pain is a constant companion. I was on the condo association board but quit last night.

On the other hand, I've got a fabulous support network of terrific friends and a roof over my head. It could be a whole lot worse.

I turn 54 on Tuesday, and other than my joints I sure don't feel it.

Friday Philosophy

In my blog-reading rounds at lunch, I came across what I can only see as very good advice for living a good life.

From True (http://glass.typepad.com/journal/2007/06/making_happy.html) via Rob Donoghue

  • Complaining is silly. Either act or forget.
  • Thinking life will be better in the future is stupid. I have to live now.
  • Being not truthful works against me.
  • Helping other people helps me.
  • Organizing a charity group is surprisingly easy.
  • Everything I do always comes back to me.
  • Money does not make me happy.
  • Traveling alone is helpful for a new perspective on life.
  • Assuming is stifling.
  • Keeping a diary supports my personal development.
  • Trying to look good limits my life.
  • Worrying solves nothing.
  • Material luxuries are best enjoyed in small doses.
  • Having guts always works out for me.
And... to put it really simply...
